Green chutney is known to be refreshing, spicy, with a touch of tang and sweetness – a perfectly balanced sauce.
- Cilantro & Mint – a generous helping of fresh herbs provides a refreshing flavor to this chutney
- Coconut – fresh coconut is best for this recipe and adds a touch of sweetness, and texture to the chutney. But desiccated coconut will work as well.
- Garlic – fresh garlic adds the best flavor to this recipe
- Chili – either fresh green chili, red chili powder, or even whole dried chilis will work for this recipe.
- Lemon – the lemon juice adds a balancing acidity to the chutney
How to store Green Chutney?
The sauce can be stored in an air-tight bottle for 7-10 days, or in the freezer for longer.
If you want to freeze the chutney, add it to an ice cube tray to freeze solid for a few hours. After it is frozen solid, remove Green chutney cubes from the tray and store them in a Ziploc bag in the freezer, for a couple of months.

Green chutney
Ingredients
- 1 cup Cilantro
- 1 cup Mint leaves
- Coconut fresh or desiccated
- 2-3 Green chilli adjust to preferred spice
- 1-2 Garlic cloves
- ½ teaspoon Cumin powder
- Salt to taste
- ½ teaspoon Sugar optional (depending on the sweetness of the coconut)
- 2-3 teaspoon Lemon juice adjust to preferred taste
Instructions
- Add all the ingredients to a blender, and grind together.
- Add a little water if required, but the cilantro and mint will release water, so be patient.
- Adjust to taste – add chili for spice, sugar for sweetness, or lemon juice for tang.
