This DIY Holiday Treat Box is filled with traditional and fusion Indian/Pakistani snacks, making a festive edible gift for family and friends for the holidays!
Mom and I have been working on a DIY Desi Holiday Treat Box for this year! Since the holidays will look different for us all this year, this treat box can be a fun way to share sweets and treats with your neighbors, friends, and families! It makes the perfect edible gift this time of year!
Over the last few days, we added new recipes on here, that would make a perfect addition to your treat box.
And today, finally we’re revealing the whole holiday treat box, as well as lots of tips to create and assemble your own!
We wanted to incorporate lots of different treats – we used treats that were both festive, and included lots of flavors!
Here’s a list of all the items we included in our treat box:
- Nankhatai: Cardamom Shortbread Cookies
- Thepla: Wheat Flour & Brown Sugar Cookies (with Air Fryer Option)
- Cardamom & Almond Puff Pastry Twists
- Date & Graham Cracker Log
- Fennel & Nut Chocolate Bark
- Gur/Jaggery Popcorn
- Shakarpara: Bite-sized Sugar Cookies (With Air-Fryer Option)
How to make your own Holiday Treat Box?
Pick the box you want to use
We used these white bakery boxes we found on Amazon. They’re 6 inches by 6-inch. These were perfect for small treat boxes to drop off to friends, family, and neighbors!
The box you use can help you decide how many treats you want to include!
Plan the treats you want to include
Make a list of the items you want to include in your box. Pick items that you would enjoy make, or want to try making.
We recommend using a variety of shapes, sizes, and textures! This makes the box fun for both you and your recipient.
Also, keep in mind how long each item will last. It is easier to work with cookies and snacks that last at least a week or two!
Make a cooking/baking schedule
This DIY project can quickly go from fun to hectic, especially during the holidays!
Creating a plan for your cooking and baking schedule can help you execute this mini-project, and still keep it fun!
Get to baking/cooking
Now that you have a plan, get to baking/cooking the treats!
We planned to get the baking and cooking done over 2 weeknights, and then packed them on the third day!
Packing the boxes
Now, the fun part is putting together the boxes!
Once you have your boxes and the items that will go into the box, you can line them with parchment paper to avoid grease stains at the bottom of the box.
Cupcake liners can be used to hold smaller or medium sized items such as popcorn, or date and nut rolls.
Fill the box and arrange items as you like.
Make sure to include a tag with a personal message, and some ribbon to make complete the festive look!
What to include in your DIY Holiday Treat Box
Pick a variety of shapes, sizes, textures and flavors for your box.
We started by thinking about our items in terms of sizes. We added 2 large items, 3 medium sized items and 2 small items.
Large Items
These are the items that were the largest in size, and can be the focus of your box!
- Nankhatai: Cardamom Shortbread Cookies
- Thepla: Wheat Flour & Brown Sugar Cookies (with Air Fryer Option)
Medium sized items
Since our large sized items were all circluar cookies, we chose to add a variety of shapes in our medium sized treats.
Smaller items
These items are perfect to fill smaller spaces. Store-bought caramel popcorn, and marshmallows are also perfect for this!
